If Instant Hotspot doesn’t seem to be working on your iPhone or iPad, the following solutions can rescue you. I have mentioned multiple solutions as the problem could be due to more than one reason. Start with the first solution and move to the next trick only if it doesn’t click.
How to Fix Instant Hotspot Not Working Issue
Make Sure:
Your iPhone and iPad must be running iOS 8.1 or later and your Mac must have OS X Yosemite or later
Make sure to keep your devices near each otherBe sure your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) has an activated carrier plan that supports this featureContact your carrier to make sure you are using a plan that allows tetheringYour devices must be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID
Solution #1: Turn Off/ON Radios
The first trick that I would suggest you do is turn off/on the radios. It can most likely resolve the problem. Open the Settings app on your iOS device → tap on Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and turn it off. Wait for a couple of minutes and then turn them on. Note: Also refresh Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your Mac. Turn off the radios and then restart the computer. Then turn them on.
Solution #2: Hard Reset Your Device
If refreshing radios haven’t solved the problem, hard reset your device. On your iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, or earlier, simply press and hold the sleep/wake button and Home button at once until the Apple logo appears. On your iPhone 7/7 Plus, you have to press and hold ON/OFF button and volume down button at once. On your iPhone X, 8/8 Plus, press and release volume up button, press and release volume down button. Then, press and hold the side button.
Solution #3: Change the name of your iPhone or iPad
Once I had faced this problem, and I was able to fix it by changing the name of my device. Yes, it may sound quite funny. But at the time such tricks do click. Hence, do give this a try. Step #1. Open the Settings app and tap on General. Step #2. Now, tap on About. Step #3. Tap on Name. Next, you need to type in the new name and tap Done on the keyboard. Then, restart your device. Step #4. Once it’s restarted, check out if the problem is resolved.
Solution #4: Sign Out of iCloud and Sign In To It
Is Instant Hotspot still not working? Try logging out of your Apple ID and then logging back in. Step #1. Open Settings app → Tap on Apple ID banner. Step #2. Tap on Sign Out and then enter your Apple ID passwords to confirm. Step #3. Now, quit Settings and wait for sometime. Then sign in again. Now, see if the issue has been resolved. If it has; awesome. If not, continue reading…
Solution #5: Reset Network Settings On Your iOS Device
It’s time to wipe out all the existing network settings. I know you might not want to do it, but at times it’s better to take tough decisions to fix problems. Step #1. Launch Settings app on your iOS device. Step #2. Tap on General. Step #3. Scroll down and tap on Reset → Reset Network Settings. Enter your passcode if asked and confirm that you want to reset your network settings. Now, reconnect your device to the Wi-Fi network.
Solution #6: Update Your Device
If the issue is still persistent, update your device to the latest iOS version. Before going for the software update, ensure that your device is at least 50% charged and connected to the Wi-Fi network. Step #1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device. Step #2. Now, tap on General. Step #3. Next, tap on Software Update. Then, download and install the update. After the update, the problem would, most likely, be resolved. Check out if it has clicked. That’s pretty much it! Wrapping up: In most cases, you would be able to fix this problem by just refreshing radios. But on some occasions, you may have to go to the distance.
